About this product

ORTHO ORIGIN
Orthosilicic acid · H₄SiO₄

Add silicon to your growing routine without adding NPK. Ortho Origin supplies orthosilicic acid, the dissolved form plants mainly take up through their roots. With a neutral pH and ultra-low EC, it offers a practical alternative to strongly alkaline silicate formulations.

Why choose Ortho Origin?

  • Plant-available form: orthosilicic acid rather than a total silicon figure alone.
  • No added NPK: introduce silicon separately from your base fertilizer.
  • Neutral pH, around 7: an alternative to the strongly alkaline chemistry of many potassium-silicate products.
  • Two application options: use with watering or as a foliar spray, following the label.

Available in 100 ml bottles.

Why silicon deserves a closer look

After uptake, silicon can be deposited as silica associated with cell walls, contributing to tissue stiffness and mechanical support. Researchers also investigate its role in responses to drought, salinity and other stresses. The extent of these responses varies with the crop, formulation and growing conditions. Explore Silicon in Plants: Food, Biostimulant or Structural Tool? for the evidence and its limits.

Silicon is generally considered beneficial under particular conditions, rather than universally essential. Ortho Origin is an addition to a balanced feeding programme, not a replacement for one. Read Essential and Beneficial Elements: What Do Plants Actually Need?

Low EC, with a clear purpose

Ortho Origin has an ultra-low EC and no added NPK. EC reflects how well a solution conducts electricity, largely through dissolved ions; it does not measure every dissolved compound or silicon availability. A low reading does not mean that nothing is present, nor does it guarantee compatibility with every mixture. Continue to check your final nutrient solution.

How to use

  • With watering: add to your irrigation or watering can.
  • Foliar spray: dilute in water and spray the leaves.
  • Combining: Ortho Origin can be combined with products in the pH range 4 to 10.

Always follow the dosage on the label. A higher dose does not necessarily give a better result.

Keep the whole nutrient balance in view

Silicon can interact with the acquisition and distribution of nutrients, including calcium. The direction and size of the response vary, and increased calcium in a leaf does not demonstrate increased calcium in fruit. Albino Strawberries: Why Does the Fruit Stay White? explains why formulation, mixing and nutrient balance matter.

Research on silicon does not establish that Ortho Origin delivers the same results as the treatments studied, prevents strawberry albinism or guarantees stronger growth. Choose it for its orthosilicic-acid formulation, and evaluate the response in your own growing conditions.
